LIONS CLUB

Mission
Our mission is to create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation. The Lions International is the largest service organization in the world. All money raised is used to help those in need. We serve but are not limited to the areas covered by the Central Square School District.

Our Service Projects include:
Christmas baskets filled with a complete dinner, non-perishable food items and gifts for the children, eyeglasses and free eye exams for qualifying children, scholarships, Ronald McDonald House, Camp Good Days, Scouting, CNY Eye Bank, Aurora, Empire Speech Camp, hearing, disasters, Village parks, the Food Banks at Divine Mercy, Northshore Ambulance, Central Square Library, Charity for Children, HOBY, High School Backpack and Camp Hickory. Club Fundraisers include food sales at the Kruising Knights Car Show, food at the concerts in Goettel Park, Syracuse National Picnic and the fritter booth at the Apple Festival.

History
In the city of Chicago in 1917 Melvin Jones, inspired by Helen Keller, started what became the International Association of Lions Club. Today the International Association of Lions Club is the largest service organization in the world. As of January 31, 2004 there were 1,349,983 members, 46,242 clubs in a 192 countries and geographical areas. The Central Square Lions Club was organized on November 18, 1948 with 23 charter members, Currently we have 25 members. We sponsored the Fulton, Parish, Brewerton and Pulaski clubs and assisted in starting six others, along with the Central Square Lioness Club. Our Motto: To serve. The money received from the public must be returned to the public in humanitarian service. The club is maintained entirely from membership dues. We are always looking for individuals who would like to help their community.
